Previously, a police corporal suffered injuries to his head and face after being hit by a motorcycle ridden by a 19-year-old, who was trying to flee during a roadblock (SJR).

The food delivery rider has since pleaded guilty to injuring the traffic police officer at Persiaran Raja Muda Musa, Klang, according to Harian Metro.

Food delivery rider fined RM3,000 for injuring a police corporal

Magistrate Siti Zubaidah Mahat fined the accused, Muhammad Irfan Jasman, RM3,000 and also ordered a three-month jail term if he fails to pay the fine.

According to the charge, Muhammad Irfan was accused of intentionally causing injury to a police officer, Corporal Ahmad Faidz Mat Jusoh, while the officer was carrying out his duties at about 1 AM on 27 April (Monday).

He was charged under Section 332 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to three years, a fine, or both upon conviction.

In mitigation, lawyer K Nathiya said the accused is a young offender with an unstable income as a part-time food delivery rider and also supports his parents. She added that this was his first offence and asked for a minimum fine.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Salman Alfarisi Nawawi, however, called for a suitable sentence as a lesson, noting that the incident happened in a public area and that the victim suffered rib injuries while on duty.

 

The accused also pleaded guilty to riding a motorcycle recklessly 

Meanwhile, in a separate court proceeding, Muhammad Irfan also pleaded guilty to riding a motorcycle recklessly at the same location and date.

The charge was brought under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

If convicted, the offence carries a jail term of up to five years, a fine of up to RM15,000, and disqualification from holding or obtaining a driving licence.

Magistrate A Khartiyayini allowed bail of RM4,000 with one surety and set 11 June for a social report.
