A 19-year-old female student in Kuantan died after she was allegedly choked by her boyfriend following a verbal altercation between the pair.
MalaysiaGazette reported that the incident took place at a house on Jalan Air Putih at around 4.32am today.
Signs of strangulation found
Kuantan district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ashari Abu Samah said police received a report from the suspect, who is also 19, informing them that a fight had occurred between him and the victim.

When they arrived at the scene, police found the victim lying unconscious on a bed located inside a room they rented on the ground floor of the house.
An examination by a forensic specialist from Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) later found signs of pressure on the victim’s neck before she was pronounced dead.
This led to her boyfriend being arrested and remanded for seven days starting today to assist investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
The victim’s body was sent to HTAA’s Forensic Department for a post-mortem.

Told housemates of murder
A flower vendor told China Press that the victim hailed from Kedah and that her mother had recently stopped by to visit her, with the latter asking the vendor to keep an eye on the victim and contact her if anything happened.
“At 2am, the sound of loud arguing broke out from the couple’s room and their housemates knocked on the door in an attempt to stop the argument as it was too loud.
When the suspect opened the door, he told them he had killed his girlfriend by accident.
“Their housemates were shocked by the news and some called their families in Perak and Kuala Lumpur, telling them they wanted to go home immediately.”

The vendor added that the house is now largely deserted after the housemates decided to “abandon” it.
