1Fit is an app known for offering a wide range of fitness classes such as gym memberships, swimming, pilates and more, similar to the more reliable popular app, ClassPass.

Recently, 1Fit has closed down due to insufficient funding and has shut down all its operations, which left users shocked.

The company shutting down means users can no longer make bookings or purchases, and existing memberships are no longer valid.

The CEO of 1Fit, Murat Alikhanov, posted a video on their Instagram page publicly announcing their closure in Malaysia.

He stated that they tried sustaining their business, but after multiple attempts, it was unsuccessful and therefore decided to cease their operations.

Since their abrupt closure, netizens took their complaints online.

One user on TikTok, @azimjmy, was scammed out of RM2.5k by 1Fit as they were among the many users who weren’t given a refund after paying a large sum for fitness subscriptions.

Many 1Fit users were not able to get their remaining subscription and membership refund despite filling out the Google Forms by 1Fit as ‘refund requests are subject to available funds’.

Some netizens took it to the comment sections on 1Fit’s Instagram page.

“It is unacceptable that 1Fit continued selling RM2,xxx annual memberships and incentivized KOL’s to recruit new members *while allegedly aware* of it’s impending shut down. This is a blatant disregard for consumer rights and ethical business practices.” One user wrote.

Some netizens even went as far as comparing this 1Fit scam to another 1MBD incident.

Another user wrote, “1Fit continued to promote and sell/push for renewal of their membership plans despite allegedly aware of their impeding shutdown. A complete violation of ethics.”

1Fit users have voiced out their experience using the app after the shutdown.

Many claimed they received a substantial number of scam calls after signing up on the app, and some users reported that the staff of 1Fit kept pressuring them to renew or subscribe to plans when they wanted to cancel theirs.

Many Malaysians have now fallen for scams, and most of the time, you may not know you’re a victim of it until it happens.

As the fitness scene slowly becomes more popular among Malaysians these days, are scammers venturing into new tactics instead of the regular phone calls?
