2 bus firms face sanctions

TRANSPORTATION Secretary Vince Dizon issued show-cause orders to two bus companies over compliance issues in their facilities.

Dizon said the terminals of Ohayami Transit and Victory Liner in Sampaloc, Manila, were found to have insufficient seating and electric fans in waiting areas and dirty restrooms with no water supply.

“I have also observed inadequate cashless ticket-selling options, which was contrary to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure passenger comfort and safety,” Dizon said on his first day of work after returning as Department of Transportation (DOTr) head.

“Just imagine, these are only minimum requirements for the bus companies to comply for the operation of their terminals for the comfort and safety of the commuting public, and yet they failed,” Dizon added.

Marcos recently ordered a Cabinet reshuffle where Dizon and Giovanni Lopez swapped roles. Dizon returned to head the DOTr to address mass transit and daily commuter issues, while Lopez assumed leadership of the Department of Public Works and Highways to institutionalize ongoing anti-corruption and transparency reforms.

The DOTr has been intensifying safety compliance inspections ahead of the observance of All Saints’ Day.
