Eid celebrations turned into mourning when two children were killed and four others injured after walls collapsed in two different villages during a thunderstorm in Nuh district on Thursday evening.
According to the police, a 30-foot-long wall on the south side of the Government Senior Secondary School in Tapkan village collapsed during the storm. More than five children from the village were playing there at the time and had leaned against the wall to take shelter from the storm. However, the wall collapsed, burying five children under the debris. In this mishap, 15-year-old Mohammad Ayan was killed while four others were seriously injured. The injured were identified as Masik (13), Kamil (15), Sufian (11) and Wasim (13), who were admitted to hospital for treatment.
Another accident occurred at Chandeni village during a severe storm. A 9-year-old student named Anshed Khan died when a house wall collapsed. Anshed was standing near the wall of his house when it fell on him due to strong winds. Anshed was a Class IV student at a private school.
Upon receiving information about both incidents, police and administration teams arrived at the scene and launched an investigation. Local villagers also assisted in the relief and rescue efforts.
“We sent the bodies to the mortuary and post-mortem will be conducted today,” said a senior police officer.
