TWO crocodiles were baited out of hiding by firemen in a river in Kota Marudu, but there is still no sign of a man who went missing while swimming at the site five days ago, reported The Star.
The English language daily reported that Razis Amat, 35, was swimming with his 17-year-old nephew when they suddenly went missing.
It said the teenager was found safe later, but Razis remains missing and is feared to have been attacked by crocodiles.
“Checks were conducted at the baited locations, where two crocodiles were captured. However, there is still no sign of the missing man,” said Kota Marudu fire station chief Mohd Hasbi Hajat.
The captured reptiles were handed over to the Sabah Wildlife Department for further action.
A distress call was received at 6.07pm on Wednesday (September 11) once phone service became available, as there is no network coverage at the location of the incident.
A rescue team was dispatched to the scene, which is about 13km from the Kota Marudu fire station.
A search and rescue operation was launched immediately, with rescuers using water surface search methods with the help of local villagers.
The search operation is ongoing. – September 15, 2024.
