2 evacuation centres open in Kuching for 197 flood victims

Two PPS activated in Kuching house 197 flood victims after heavy rain, with more areas in Sarawak under continuous rain warning.

KUCHING: Two temporary evacuation centres have been opened to accommodate 197 flood victims following continuous heavy rain.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department operations centre said the centres are the Stapok Community Hall and the Kampung Sinar Budi Baru Multipurpose Hall.

The Kampung Sinar Budi Baru centre is housing 155 victims from 45 families.

The Stapok Community Hall centre is accommodating 42 victims, with the number of families still being identified.

The department received a call about flooding in the Taman Desa Wira and Kampung Sinar Budi Baru areas earlier in the morning.

The Meteorological Department had issued a continuous rain warning at alert level for several areas in Sarawak.

Areas expected to be affected include Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman and Betong.
