The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) have arrested two Malaysian soldiers for attempting to steal a cow from a livestock pen in Simpang Bekoh, Jasin, Melaka on Saturday (24 May), which they planned to sell for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration.

The duo, both aged 26, turned themselves in at the Jasin Police Headquarters on the same day, after they botched their cattle theft attempt and escape.

Sinar Harian quoted Jasin District Police Chief Superintendent Mohamad Rusli Mat as saying that one of the suspects sneaked into the livestock pen housing 10 cows and 22 goats at around 1am, while the other waited outside in a Proton Persona.

However, the livestock pen owner was notified by his friend of the suspects’ presence. They, alongside other village residents, stopped the duo in their tracks and tried to apprehend them.

The duo then managed to flee from the scene with the Proton Persona, but ended up crashing into a river barrier.

Mohamad Rusli asserted,

“The village residents tried to apprehend both suspects, but they managed to escape with the car.

“However, they then lost control of the car and crashed into a river barrier. Both suspects turned themselves in at the Jasin Police Headquarters at 2.30pm the same day,”

The Jasin District Police Chief said that the suspects confessed to the cattle theft attempt as they were planning to sell the cow after getting a request for it for Hari Raya Aidiladha.

They also confessed to being involved in a cattle theft case at the same location and have been remanded for a day.

Both suspects tested negative for drugs, and the case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code.
