Two Malaysian teens yesterday (21 June) were swiftly rescued by the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JPBM) after getting lost in the forest while hiking at Bukit Cherok Tok Kun in Bukit Mertajam, Penang.

Thankfully, there was a telco signal where they got lost, as it helped them to contact JBPM and, more importantly, send their exact location via the popular messaging app WhatsApp.

According to BERNAMA, the two teens, both 18 years old, made an emergency call to the Penang JBPM at around 1.16pm yesterday.

They were then able to share their exact location with the Penang JBPM via WhatsApp, which promptly sent a team from the Bukit Mertajam Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) to rescue the duo.

Penang JBPM assistant operations director John Sagun Francis, in a statement, asserted,

“A team from the Bukit Mertajam (BBP) was deployed to the location, where five personnel were involved in the search and rescue operation for the teenagers, with the assistance of the public.”
