Despite warnings and efforts to highlight the dangers of performing stunts on the highway, the illegal riders, commonly known as Mat Rempits, are often seen riding recklessly on the road, disregarding not only their safety but also that of the other road users.

A viral video on X recently showed a group of Mat Rempits speeding on the road moments before an accident took place.

In an official statement by PDRM, the police confirmed that the accident involved 4 riders and 2 of them were dead.

“1 of them passed away at the scene, and the other died on the way to the hospital,” said Cha Hoong Fong, the Chief Police of the Southern Klang district.

The police also stated that the accident took place around 4:30 AM on August 4 (Sunday). Both deceased were only 16 and 22.

The police also confirmed that several groups of riders have been doing dangerous stunts along the road starting from the Pandamaran Sports Complex towards Port Klang, before turning back to perform the same dangerous stunts.

Police are investigating under section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Cha also revealed that the area is often a circuit for teenagers to do dangerous group motorcycle-related activities even though there have been a series of operations carried out by the police.

PDRM also urged the parents and guardians to watch over their kids.

“Be alert. Make sure they stay away from illegal activities that can harm their lives, as well as the lives of other road users.”

Apart from constant patrol and roadblocks, what other methods can you suggest to curb these illegal racers on the street?
