BATANG KALI: Search and rescue officers have found two more bodies after the landslide here, bringing the total death toll to 23.

Selangor fire and rescue department director Norazam Khamis said the bodies were found close to each other. He said the authorities believed the victims were a mother and her son.

“We believe that the woman was in her 30s while the boy was between two and three years old,” he told reporters.

The victims were found at the Hillview campsite, which was completely buried by the landslide.

A landslide occurred in the early hours of the morning yesterday at three campsites near the Batang Kali-Genting Highlands road.

Based on the campsite operator’s visitor registration record, there were 94 campers at the site during the landslide in which 61 people were rescued.

Search and rescue operations are ongoing with 10 more victims still missing.
