TWO Filipino seafarers injured in a drone attack on a Liberia-flagged LPG tanker in the Black Sea have returned to the Philippines and will receive medical and other post-arrival assistance, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said.
The seafarers arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 on Monday night, Aug. 3.
They were among crew members affected when MV GAS LISBON was hit and caught fire in waters near Romania on July 20.
A Filipino seafarer died on July 23 after the drone attack.
Upon their arrival, the seafarers received airport assistance and Special Financial Assistance from the DMW and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration as part of the government’s immediate support.
In coordination with their licensed manning agency, authorities are continuing post-arrival interventions, including temporary accommodation, medical assessment, and other necessary assistance before the seafarers return to their respective families.
Both the DMW and OWWA are also coordinating with the family of the deceased Filipino seafarer to ensure assistance for the repatriation of his remains and other support needed.
The government said the safety and welfare of overseas Filipino workers and seafarers remain a priority, with OWWA continuing to assist affected OFWs and their families during times of crisis and recovery.
