
In a tragic incident that occurred in Amritsar on Sunday, two women devotees who had come to the Gurdwara Shaheed Baba Deep Singh were killed, while around eight others were injured, after iron shuttering of an under-construction building fell on them.
The mishap occurred at around 1.30 pm, when the devotees were participating in the ‘chaupehra’ (weekly assembly of reciting hymns).
The injured were immediately rushed to Guru Ram Dass hospital, and the critical ones were further referred to other private hospitals.
One of the deceased woman was identified as Rajrani of Sathiala village, while the other was yet to be identified.
The injured included Rajni from Sathiala, Seema from Batala, Daljit Kaur from Ludhiana, Bavreet Kaur from Guru Ram Dass Avenue on Airport Road here, Paramjit Kaur from Fatehgarh Churian Road, Baljeet Kaur from Moga, Manisha Dhawan from Ferozepur, Raj Kaur from Rajatal, and Kashmir Kaur from Tarn Taran.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Police Vishaljit Singh said, “The police promptly reached the spot after receiving information,” he said.
ADC further said, “The incident occurred after the iron shuttering of vehicle columns at the under-construction building accidentally collapsed onto the women devotees. It is a matter of investigation as to how this incident occurred.”
