Sri Aman, Sarawak records API of 195, the highest among 20 areas nationwide with unhealthy air quality amid worsening haze as of 9am

KUALA LUMPUR: Twenty areas nationwide recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 9 am today, with Sri Aman in Sarawak recording the highest reading.

According to data on the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, Sri Aman recorded an API reading of 195, approaching the very unhealthy level, followed by the Serian district police headquarters (IPD) (173), Sarikei (153), Miri (120) and Kuching (114).

Three areas in Selangor also recorded readings above 100, namely Johan Setia (154), Shah Alam (152) and Petaling Jaya (130), in addition to Cheras (159) and Batu Muda (152) in Kuala Lumpur.

A similar trend was detected in the northern part of the country, with three areas in Penang recording unhealthy readings, led by Seberang Perai at 157, followed by Minden (156) and Seberang Jaya (152), while in Kedah, the affected areas were Sungai Petani (152) and Alor Setar (103).

In Perak, the three affected areas were Taiping (155), Tasek Ipoh (137) and Seri Manjung (113), while Seremban in Negeri Sembilan recorded a reading of 108.

Meanwhile, 46 areas nationwide were reported to have moderate readings and one area recorded a good reading, while no areas were detected to be at the very unhealthy or hazardous levels as of this morning.

An API reading of zero to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and readings above 300 hazardous.
