20 best gifts for 7-year-olds, tested by kids

Seven is such a fun age. Young enough to still be into imaginative play and silly toys, by seven, kids are also developing their patience and problem-solving skills, so can enjoy more involved STEM and craft kits too. Looking for the best gifts for seven-year-olds? You’re spoilt for choice!

Seven-year-olds are drawn to toys that spark creativity, encourage curiosity and make them laugh. Whether that’s an interactive LEGO set, a fun fact-packed non-fiction book, a potion kit or even a ride-on unicorn. Yes, really.

Technology is starting to appeal big time, so anything that taps into this interest without turning them into screen-zombies is a great bet. Things like video journals, audio players or even a carefully chosen, age-appropriate games console (like our best buy) will all appeal.

You can’t go wrong with a craft set or cuddly toy at this age, and big outdoor toys that let them burn off some energy are perfect for seven-year-olds. Whatever they’re into, and whatever your budget, these are my favourite gifts for seven-year-olds, tried and tested by my very willing helpers.

Nex Playground

Rating: 5/5

Image from: 20 best gifts for 7-year-olds, tested by kids

Best: gift for 7-year-olds overall

Age range: 3+

Why we love it

  • Keeps kids active
  • Great fun
  • Perfect for all the family
  • Safe for young children

Take note

  • Play Pass to access more games costs extra
  • Expensive

The Nex playground is an absolutely genius games console that the whole of my family has been obsessed with since it arrived. Instead of using controllers to play, the built-in wide-angle camera tracks your body movements, so you control game play simply by moving arms, jumping around and kicking.

I found the console very easy to set up, taking minutes to figure it out and have it all synched and up and running. The cute cube comes loaded with five games – including Fruit Ninja which is essentially a HIIT workout replacement – but there’s the option to upgrade to a play pass to access a massive library of games. Costing £90 for a year’s access, it is an additional expense you will need to factor in if you really want to make the most of the playground, but cost-per-game I think it’s really good value.

This has gone down very well in my house (Sarah Dawson/The Independent)

The playground has been such a hit in our house, and as the games encourage kids to keep active rather than sit on a sofa, I’ve been more than happy for my two to spend time playing on this each day. The games are so varied, covering everything from ten-pin bowling to a How To Train Your Dragon themed flying game, but my tester’s absolute favourite is Tumbobots, where you use your arms to control various robots’ legs as you battle each other. Honestly, the giggles this game causes are addictive.

It is an investment, but this is an absolute dream gift for any seven-year-old and something they can grow with, as well as something the whole family will want to join in with. I can’t fault it!

Lush bath bomb

Rating: 5/5

Image from: 20 best gifts for 7-year-olds, tested by kids

Best: budget gift for seven-year-olds

Age range: 5+

Why we love it

  • Huge choice of designs and fragrances
  • Natural ingredients
  • Really fizz up in the bath

Take note

  • Check any allergies before you buy

Genuinely, I can’t think of a better crowd-pleaser of a gift for a seven-year-old than a Lush bath bomb. The choice of colours, designs and characters (my tester loves the Minions and Hello Kitty collabs) is vast and every bath bomb we tested delivered some excellent bath fizziness.

I love that every bath bomb is handmade using natural ingredients (although some do contain things like sweet almond, so make sure you check whoever you’re buying for doesn’t have any allergies) and really make bathtime feel exciting. My seven-year-old has never been so eager to have a bath!

 (Sarah Dawson/The Independent)

The bath bombs come in at around £4-£6 each, so make a perfect affordable gift. However, if you have the budget and fancy splashing out, we also tested the Happy Birthday gift box (£45, Lush.com), which included four bath bombs (we loved the llama piñata), two bubble bars and a cute party bag with bunting, birthday badge and more), which we all thought was amazing.

Squishmallows K-Pop Demon Hunters Derpy 30cm

Rating: 4.5/5

Image from: 20 best gifts for 7-year-olds, tested by kids

Best: cuddly toy gift for seven-year-olds

Age range: 3+

Why we love it

  • Large and perfect for cuddling
  • Realistic detailing
  • Excellent quality

Take note

  • Won’t appeal so much to non-K-Pop Demon Hunters fans

Squishmallows plus K-Pop Demon Hunters? It’s a match made in seven-year-old heaven. My little tester fell hard for this 30cm tall cuddly version of Derpy (you know, the strangely adorable supernatural tiger from the Netflix hit?) and it’s not hard to see why.

This bares great resemblance (Sarah Dawson/The Independent)

It’s an officially licensed product and the resemblance to on-screen Derpy is spot-on – my tester loved the fluffy ears and squishy blue tail in particular. The quality is excellent, and Derpy has become the number one choice for movie night cuddles and was even picked by my seven-year-old, out of her very large soft toy collection, as the chosen one to take on holiday with us. I think at under £20 it’s a great choice for any K-Pop Demon Hunters fan.

Yoto Player

Rating: 5/5

Image from: 20 best gifts for 7-year-olds, tested by kids

Best: audio player gift for seven-year-olds

Age range: 3+

Why we love it

  • Large choice of audio books and music
  • Engaging screen-free fun
  • Portable and durable
  • Easy for kids to use independently

Take note

  • Cards need to be bought separately

I cannot rave about Yoto players enough – they make brilliant gifts for any age, but I think they are particularly ideal for seven-year-olds. With no camera, no microphone and no ads, this screen-free audio player is a safe and fun way for kids to listen to stories, music or podcasts at home or in the car, simply by slotting their own Yoto cards into the top of the box.

Perfectly designed with kids in mind, it’s intuitive to use (my seven-year-old had it figured out almost immediately) and robust enough to take on holiday. I found set-up very easy – it’s all done via the app, and I managed to connect to the WiFi in minutes.

The selection of cards is impressive (Sarah Dawson/The Independent)

What really impressed me is the choice of Yoto cards. It’s huge and very eclectic – think everything from Brambly Hedge to the best of the Spice Girls – and my seven-year-old loved the freedom and independence of choosing what to listen to next. It’s made bedtime really chilled out and she falls asleep listening to her Yoto Player every night (the soft night light is a nice addition for this age too).

Honestly, the Yoto Player is a gift that kids (and their parents) are practically guaranteed to love. I think it’s well worth the investment.

Brainstorm Toys Outdoor Adventure Mega Explorer Kit

Rating: 4/5

Image from: 20 best gifts for 7-year-olds, tested by kids

Best: gift for seven-year-olds who love nature

Age range: 6+

Why we love it

  • Encourages kids to get outdoors
  • Comes with a bag to carry everything
  • Microscope and binoculars work well

Take note

  • A lot of plastic

This clever kit has everything kids need to head out on their very own nature adventure. The set includes a net, trowel, storage pots, brush, plastic tweezers, a pair of binoculars and the portable microscope, all stored in a handy orange drawstring bag.

This is great for exploring nature (Sarah Dawson/The Independent)

I like that everything in the set works really well – we were particularly impressed with the handheld microscope which gives up to 40x magnification. My tester loved switching on the built-in light (this uses 2 x AAA batteries to work, but these are included) and using the focus dial to zoom in on things like leaves and moss. The clarity is amazing, particularly for the price.

The fact it all comes in its own bag, and that the whole kit is lightweight enough for seven-year-olds to carry themselves, makes it a genuinely useful and fun addition to family walks.

Gui Gui Mini

Rating: 4.5/5

Image from: 20 best gifts for 7-year-olds, tested by kids

Best: gift for seven-year-old slime fans

Age range: 6+

Why we love it

  • Can be attached as a keyring
  • Fun DIY element
  • Choice of slime textures and fragrance

Take note

  • Adding the glitter can be a little messy

Slime is always going to go down well as a gift for seven-year-olds, but this slime mini from Gui Gui feels extra special. It comes as a ‘make it yourself’ kit, with your choice of textured slime (there’s cloud, butter or gloss), along with some glitter and charms you can mix in to personalise. My tester loved the process of opening all the little packages and creating her own slime – a process that was, thankfully, not as messy as I imagined, although I’d recommend a tray or table cover for mixing in the sparkles.

This is a nice way to enjoy slime (Sarah Dawson/The Independent)

What makes this unique is that the little pot you store the slime in comes with a key chain, so you can attach it to your bag. It’s such a cute touch and one my tester absolutely loved. Out of all the slime my tester has played with (and that’s a lot over the years) Gui Gui by far feels the best quality and actually smells nice, which is a massive plus.

Aquabeads Crazy Monsters

Rating: 4/5

Image from: 20 best gifts for 7-year-olds, tested by kids

Best: craft kit gift for seven-year-olds

Age range: 4+

Why we love it

  • Mess-free crafting
  • Cool neon colours
  • Key ring attachments included

Take note

  • Can be a little fiddly

If you’re after a mess-free crafting kit, I think it’s hard to beat Aquabeads. This neon monster set had everything my seven-year-old needed to make her own cool keyrings and, as the instructions are so clear and the process straightforward, she was able to get stuck in independently.

This is a great craft kit to keep little ones busy (Sarah Dawson/The Independent)

To create the monsters you just lay out beads on the base tray, following the illustrated instructions, then give them a spritz with the water spray and leave to dry. It’s very simple, but my tester did get caught out occasionally when she rushed, missing the odd bead and having to re-do certain lines. With a little concentration, she got there in the end!

You’ll never get through all the beads in one crafting session, so I’d recommend storing them in a tub, rather than leaving loose in the cardboard box – unless, from experience, you fancy scrambling around on the floor picking up a lot of runaway beads.

Momiji Plush Soft Toy Surprise Box

Rating: 4.5/5

Image from: 20 best gifts for 7-year-olds, tested by kids

Best: collectible toy gift for seven-year-olds

Age range: 3+

Why we love it

  • Very cute designs
  • Huge collectable appeal
  • Great quality

Take note

  • Can’t choose design

The pull of a blind box is strong for seven-year-olds, and they don’t get much cuter than these Kawaii-inspired designs from Momiji. There’s a choice of Magical Meadow and Out of This World collections, and inside each box you’ll find a miniature cuddly toy (which is gorgeously soft and well made), collector’s card and sticker.

The surprise makes a fun gift (Sarah Dawson/The Independent)

The unboxing is part of the fun, particularly as you don’t know which character you’re going to get. While my tester was a little disappointed not to receive the mysterious, rare special edition, Jeff, she was very happy with Gilbert, a ridiculously cute raindrop. She’s now on a mission to collect them all.

Plum Play Wooden Monkey Bars

Rating: 5/5

Image from: 20 best gifts for 7-year-olds, tested by kids

Best: outdoor toy gift for seven-year-olds

Age range: 3+

Why we love it

  • Fun way to build strength and keep active
  • A good challenge
  • Made from FSC®-certified wood

Take note

  • Self-assembly required
  • Maximum weight limit of 50kg

If you want to keep kids active and away from screens for as long as possible, a big outdoor toy is a great investment at this age. This wooden monkey bar set from Plum Play has been the best addition to our garden, with our seven-year-old found dangling off it during any free minute she has. It was a bit of a job to assemble single-handedly – it would be a simple enough two-person job though – but the instructions were clear and there weren’t too many pieces to contend with.

This is ideal for active kids (Sarah Dawson/The Independent)

You will need a bit of space in the garden for this, but I did find that it’s more compact than a lot of climbing frames and swing sets, plus I like that it’s light enough for two people to move around when it’s time to mow the lawn. Once built, it’s very sturdy and can take a max user weight of 50kg, so it won’t be outgrown quickly.

Monkey bars are perfect for building strength and coordination, as well as being a whole lot of fun. If you’re on the lookout for a garden toy that seven-year-olds will love, I couldn’t recommend this enough – it’s well worth the spend.

Youth & Wild Premium Rainbow Fizz Potion Kit

Rating: 5/5

Image from: 20 best gifts for 7-year-olds, tested by kids

Best: gift for creative seven-year-olds

Age range: 3+

Why we love it

  • Includes refillable jars
  • Perfect for imaginative play
  • A lot of fun

Take note

  • Best for outdoor play

Potion kits have been my go-to gift for this age range for a while now, and this one from Youth & Wild is the best we’ve ever tried. It comes with eight reusable jars of colourful potion ingredients (everything from fizzing fairy dust to mermaid scales) all made from kid-friendly – but not edible – ingredients like fizzing bath salts and coconut flakes. The kit also comes with essential potion making tools like a wooden scoop, test tube and pipette.

You can get creative with the concoctions (Sarah Dawson/The Independent)

My tester was desperate to get stuck in straight away and mixed up some amazing fizzing concoctions in her mud kitchen, literally squealing with joy as they bubbled and changed colour. It’s such a fun, sensory activity that really fuels the imagination and I loved watching my tester play with the kit. It can get messy, so I’d recommend setting it up outside, rather than the kitchen table, if you can.

While kids are likely to whizz through the ingredients at lightning speed, the fact the screw-top jars are reusable means you can get creative and refill them yourself (or order more ingredients from Youth & Wild). It’s the perfect gift for letting kids just be kids.

LEGO Education Antarctic Animals Science Kit

Rating: 4/5

Image from: 20 best gifts for 7-year-olds, tested by kids

Best: lego gift for seven-year-olds

Age range: 7+

Why we love it

  • Encourages creativity and problem solving
  • Great for animal lovers
  • Fun to play with once built

Take note

  • A little tricky in parts

My tester loved getting creative and hands-on with this Antarctic themed Lego set. While the first part of the kit follows the usual step-by-step build instructions, the builder is then encouraged to come up with creative ways to solve problems – in this instance, helping to create a path to guide the penguins down the icy slope into the water – as well as invent their own boat for the expedition.

This kit allows more creative freedom (Sarah Dawson/The Independent)

The mix of instructions and the freedom to use the included Lego pieces for whatever they liked, really appealed to my seven-year-old, who can sometimes lose her concentration during a lengthy build. This was a perfect ‘best of both worlds’ kit that really captured her imagination.

Her favourite parts of the kit were building the two penguins and making baleen plates for the whale, and while it’s certainly something some seven-year-olds can be left to independently, I found playing with her really encouraged lots of questions around Antarctica and conservation.

Ergopouch Blobby Bedtime Lamp

Rating: 4.5/5

Image from: 20 best gifts for 7-year-olds, tested by kids

Best: bedroom accessory gift for seven-year-olds

Age range: 2+

Why we love it

  • Six colours
  • Rechargeable battery
  • Cute addition to any bedroom

Take note

  • Battery life isn’t very long

You know something will make a good gift when an argument breaks out over it. Both of my children tried to claim ownership of Blobby, the adorable bedroom lamp, and I can understand why. It’s pretty hard to resist, with a squishy body, smiley face and dangly legs.

The adorable reading light has dimming options (Sarah Dawson/The Independent)

There’s a choice of six colours, including a warm yellow which we found perfect for bedtime stories, and you can switch between three dimming levels by tapping Blobby or giving it a squeeze. My seven-year-old sat the lamp on her bedside table and enjoyed the freedom of being able to adjust the brightness and colours, before dropping off.

It’s rechargeable via USB-C (cable included) and the battery can last up to 20 hours, depending on which brightness setting you use. I found that we had to recharge the lamp quite often as my tester kept falling asleep with it on, but it’s easy and quick enough to recharge daily if needed.

Secret Creator Secret Video Journal

Rating: 4/5

Image from: 20 best gifts for 7-year-olds, tested by kids

Best: journal gift for seven-year-olds

Age range: 7+

Why we love it

  • Fun way for children to record their thoughts and stories
  • Good battery life
  • Question prompts to inspire your child

Take note

  • Fingerprint reader is a little glitchy sometimes

A diary is a rite of passage at this age, and this video journal is a fun way for kids to record their thoughts and what they’ve been up to in a safe way. There’s no access to the internet and no sharing function, so you know whatever your child records isn’t going anywhere.

This is a super interactive journal (Sarah Dawson/The Independent)

There’s also no chance of annoying siblings hacking into the journal, as it’s accessed by a fingerprint reader – reassuringly you can add more than one fingerprint to the device, so parents can access if necessary. We did find the fingerprint scanner a little glitchy on occasion when my seven-year-old tried it, but I didn’t have any issues using it myself.

As well as a choice of filters and frames, there’s a built-in LED mood light to use during filming, and “Question of the Day” prompts to get kids talking. I loved watching the videos my seven-year-old made, chatting about her school days, and she loved owning her own piece of fancy tech.

Kidywolf KIDYKARAOKE Portable Karaoke Speaker

Rating: 4/5

Image from: 20 best gifts for 7-year-olds, tested by kids

Best: gift for seven-year-old performers

Age range: 5+

Why we love it

  • Includes two microphones
  • Speaker has built-in coloured lights
  • Easy for kids to use independently
  • Bluetooth enabled

Take note

  • Microphone sound quality not the greatest

Designed specifically with young kids in mind, this excellent portable karaoke machine from Kidywolf is a brilliant treat for budding performers. It comes with two wireless microphones that click neatly into the dock underneath the machine (genius touch!) and features 360-degree built-in coloured lights that my tester thought were very cool. It also has a built-in carry handle, making it nicely portable for trips to the grandparents’, friends’ houses and into the garden (sorry neighbours).

 (Sarah Dawson/The Independent)

I found it easy to synch to Bluetooth, so I my tester could stream her favourite songs to sing along to – currently “Bangaranga” and “Man, I Feel Like A Woman”. The speaker sound is actually very clear, although the microphones weren’t quite so crisp, not that it bothered my testers. The machine is rechargeable via USB-C so no need to faff about with batteries and it doesn’t take up much room.

Little Stardust Aloe Vera Blue Hair Mascara

Rating: 4/5

Image from: 20 best gifts for 7-year-olds, tested by kids

Best: beauty gift for seven-year-olds

Age range: 4+

Why we love it

  • Washes out easily
  • Leaves a bright colour
  • Non-toxic and fragrance free

Take note

  • Bamboo tube is quite fragile

Once a staple of a Nineties childhood, hair mascara is back! Thankfully this offering from The Natural Play MakeUp Company is made from natural ingredients and washes out easily. We tested it out on ‘Crazy Hair Day’ at school and my tester was thrilled with her blue pigtails. The colour payoff is actually amazing, although we only tested on blonde hair.

This is a fun way to play with makeup (Sarah Dawson/The Independent)

It didn’t leave hair as crispy as hair mascara from yore, and it didn’t transfer onto clothes or car seats during testing. My seven-year-old found it easy enough to apply herself and thought it was great fun. The tube is made from bamboo, which is great from a sustainable point of view, but it is marked as fragile and could break if knocked onto the floor, so that’s something to be aware of. For under £10 I think this is such a fun gift.

Power Pony Electric Ride On

Rating: 5/5

Image from: 20 best gifts for 7-year-olds, tested by kids

Best: electric ride-on toy for seven-year-olds

Age range: 4+

Why we love it

  • Easy to operate
  • So much fun
  • Choice of driving modes/speeds
  • Integrated Bluetooth speaker

Take note

  • Expensive
  • Maximum weight limit of 50kg

An electronic ride-on unicorn has to be up there as the ultimate dream gift for seven-year-olds. My testers were on the verge of self-combusting with excitement when this arrived and were devastated to learn it had to charge for four hours before they could ride it (subsequent charges only take around one hour).

A bit of self-assembly was needed, but there are clear instructions as well as a QR code which takes you to video instructions for further clarity if needed. I was able to do it quickly while fielding endless questions from my seven-year-old, and soon Princess the unicorn was good to go (it also comes in a brown pony design called Champ).

This makes an epic gift (Sarah Dawson/The Independent)

The Power Pony is essentially a hover board with a ride-on unicorn attached, so the kids had to operate and steer it with their feet – something my nine-year-old picked up immediately and my seven-year-old grasped after just a few minutes. It’s worth synching to the app to control the ride spend, check battery level (which lasts very well) and play music via the built-in Bluetooth speaker. We tested out all the ride settings and at its fastest it really is whizzy, so I’d suggest you follow the recommendation of riders always wearing helmets!

As if all of this isn’t fun enough, the Power Pony has light up LED wheels and makes “neigh” sounds as the touch of a button. We’ve had a constant stream of visitors desperate to test it out and can confirm it’s universally loved by seven-year-olds. It works well on grass and carpet, but I’d say it’s best on hard floors, just make sure you have enough space to ride and store this at home. I appreciate it’s very expensive, but it really is the kind of toy that kids will lose their tiny minds over. Gutted I’m over the weight limit, to be honest.

Invented by Animals by Christiane Dorion, illustrated by Gosia Herba, published by Wide Eyed

Rating: 5/5

Image from: 20 best gifts for 7-year-olds, tested by kids

Best: book gift for 7-year-olds

Age range: 7+

Why we love it

  • Packed with fun and interesting facts
  • Gorgeous colour illustrations
  • Great value

Take note

  • Some words may be a little tricky for reluctant readers

Seven-year-olds are little fact sponges and this brilliant book is bound to teach them something new. It takes a look at the different ways in which animals have inspired some of the technology we see today, all presented in a fun, accessible way. The pages pack in a lot of information, but as they’re accompanied by colourful illustrations my seven-year-old was able to slowly take it all in.

The book is full of engaging illustrations (Sarah Dawson/The Independent)

Some of the words may be new to your seven-year-old, but it’s a great opportunity to read together – I bet you’ll learn something new from this book, too! I found it such a great book for sparking interesting chats about how amazing nature is and what some of our favourite inventions are.

L.O.L. Surprise! Plush Surprise

Rating: 4.5/5

Image from: 20 best gifts for 7-year-olds, tested by kids

Best: gift for seven-year-old L.O.L. Surprise! fans

Age range: 3+

Why we love it

  • Cute keychain design
  • Comes with accessories to unwrap
  • Very collectable

Take note

  • Can’t choose character if you order online

Anything L.O.L. Surprise! is guaranteed to be adored by my seven-year-old, but this brand-new Plush Surprise caused next-level excitement. It follows the usual unboxing experience, and my tester loved unwrapping all the little accessories included.

The doll comes with five accessories (Sarah Dawson/The Independent)

Instead of the usual hard bodied doll, this is the first L.O.L. Surprise! doll with a soft plushie body. Usually you don’t know which character you’re buying, but with the Plush Surprise you do get a clue as to which doll is inside the box as the ears stick out the top of the box– perfect if you’re buying in store, but if you’re buying online it’s the luck of the draw.

The dolls come with five accessories – some of which are hidden inside pockets, so make sure you double-check – and a removable key chain. This went immediately on my tester’s school bag and has been the talk of the classroom ever since.

PLUS PLUS Moomin Building Blocks Tinbox

Rating: 4/5

Image from: 20 best gifts for 7-year-olds, tested by kids

Best: building toy for seven-year-olds

Age range: 5+

Why we love it

  • Comes with blue tin carry case
  • 500 pieces for creative builds
  • Sweet Moomin theme

Take note

  • Some of the builds are a little fiddly

This is such an excellent, engaging construction kit which won my testers (and me) over thanks to the adorable Moomin theme. The 500-piece Plus Plus set comes in a fancy blue tin suitcase – perfect for keeping everything together – and inside there’s an instruction booklet talking you through the various Moomin-related builds. Plus Plus are essentially chunky puzzle pieces that you slot together to crate 3D builds and while my tester managed to follow the instructions, she did find it a bit fiddlier than the LEGO kit.

This is a high quality building kit (Sarah Dawson/The Independent)

However, it was the variety of Moomin characters she was able to make with the kit that really impressed (Snorkmaiden was a particular fave) and the fact the set includes glow in the dark building pieces, which my tester thought was so cool.

Eugy Whale Shark

Rating: 4/5

Image from: 20 best gifts for 7-year-olds, tested by kids

Best: rainy-day activity gift for seven-year-olds

Age range: 6+

Why we love it

  • Hundreds of designs to choose from
  • Simple builds
  • Beautiful keepsakes once completed
  • Great budget buy

Take note

  • Instructions need to be downloaded via a QR code

If you’re after a gift under a tenner, you can’t go wrong with a Eugy kit. Made from eco-friendly card, each kit includes pop-out pieces that you slot, stack and glue together to create amazing 3D characters. There are over 100 different designs to choose from, featuring everything from an axolotl to a hoopoe, so whatever they’re into, you’ll find it here.

This is an eco-friendly option (Sarah Dawson/The Independent)

The build itself it relatively easy, with each piece labelled with a number and whether it’s the left or right side. However, in many of the kits the instructions are only available to download via a QR code, which made it a little annoying having to dig my phone out for the duration of the build. I would have preferred paper instructions, so my tester didn’t need a screen, but I appreciate the paper-saving initiative.

We did occasionally have issues with the central cardboard posts getting a little bent during construction , but my tester happily completed several kits without much intervention from me, and they now take pride of place on her bedroom shelf.

What is the best gift for 7-year-olds?

If your budget allows, I think the Nex playground is an absolutely brilliant investment and a dream gift for seven-year-olds. It’s fun, encourages kids to keep active and scratches that game console itch without feeling too screen heavy. It you’re after something less pricey, the Yoto player is a fabulous gift that they’ll use for years to come, or, for a budget buy, you can’t go wrong with a Lush bath bomb.

How I tested

With zero persuasion needed, I asked two very happy seven-year-olds to help with testing. Looking at everything from kid-appeal to value for money and – crucially – which gifts were the ones most played with or talked about , only the very best made it into this roundup.
