KUNAK: A total of 20 residents of Kg Airport Batu 10 along Jalan Tun Fuad here were transferred to a temporary shelter (PPS) after flash floods inundated their homes early Tuesday.

Kunak Fire and Rescue Department Chief, Mohamad Omarbatha, said they received the emergency call at 3.20am via the station’s line.

A team led by Senior Fire Officer Oma Tome were dispatched to the scene about 17km from the station.

“Five houses were affected by the flood. Other agencies also helped with evacuating flood victims,” he said, adding that the evacuation operation ended at 6.55am.

Read more Initial reports indicated that five families were involved in the incident, each consisting of five men (including a disabled person), seven women, four girls, three boys and an infant.

The village hall was used as a temporary shelter.

The phenomenon is believed to be caused by the overflow from the Kamlumpang River almost reaching the roofs of the houses involved.
