20 Pinoy trafficking victims return from Cambodia

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Friday said that 20 Filipino human trafficking victims from Cambodia were “safely repatriated” by the Philippine government.

In a statement, the agency said the repatriation was in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directives in ensuring the protection and welfare of overseas Filipino workers in situations of distress.

The Filipinos arrived at Terminal 1 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) aboard a flight from Techo International Airport in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and the repatriation was made possible through coordinated efforts of the DMW through the Migrant Workers Office in Singapore and the Philippine embassy in the Cambodian capital.

“Upon arrival, they received assistance to ensure their recovery and reintegration, including financial and welfare support from the DMW and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and legal assistance from the DMW-Migrant Workers Protection Bureau and the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) Task Force. The Bureau of Immigration and NAIA Task Force Against Trafficking (NAIA-TFAT) also extended airport assistance,” the agency said.
