Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) is stepping up efforts to strengthen religious education, with plans to fill 200 vacant Al-Quran and Fardhu Ain (Kafa) teaching posts by 2026.

Its Director Dr Baharudin Othman said the initiative will be carried out in close cooperation with State religious agencies to ensure that Islamic education reaches children across the State.

“At present, there are about 2,400 Kafa teachers in Sabah, with some 200 vacancies still to be filled to ensure lessons are delivered effectively to students statewide.

“Kafa teachers play an important role in supporting Islamic education together with state religious departments, and we are committed to filling these vacancies for the benefit of Sabah’s young generation,” he said after paying a courtesy call on Head of State Tun Musa Aman at Istana Seri Kinabalu, recently.

Baharudin said the visit also served as his formal introduction as the new Sabah Jakim Director, having taken over the post on September 10 from Datuk Norjeli Dais, who retired the day before.

Before his appointment, he served as Senior Assistant Director at the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) Labuan.

Also present were Universiti Malaysia Sabah’s Faculty of Psychology and Social Work Assoc Prof Dr Nurul Hudani Md Nawi, Khairunnisa Yusof, Nor Diyana Mohamed Rais, and Zaimatul Nadia Anuar, representing various units within Sabah Jakim.
