Kota Kinabalu: Villagers of Kampung Lok Baru in Gaya Island, near here, captured a 200kg crocodile on Wednesday.
District Police Chief ACP Kasim Muda said police received information about the capture at 4.30pm on Wednesday.
“Initial investigation found that the villagers spotted the crocodile, over three metres long, in the village’s waters before collectively deciding to capture it using ropes and boats,” he said in a statement, Thursday.
The crocodile was transferred to a Malaysian Civil Defence Department (APM) boat for further action at 5.30pm.

APM Operating Officer Lieutenant, Ezra Daniel Gandui said the boy was quick enough to save himself by climbing up to one of the stilted houses.
“It took villagers about an hour to track down the crocodile which was later taken to Tanjung Aru at 7.05pm.
“It was later handed over to the Sabah Wildlife Department for further action,” he said, reminding people in the area to be vigilant when conducting water activities.
