The 2025 BYD Seal has earned a full 5-star rating in its debut ASEAN NCAP assessment, scoring 92.07 points overall under the 2021–2025 protocol, one of the highest results ever achieved by an EV in the region.

Across all key areas, the Seal recorded 38.44 points for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), 16.60 for Child Occupant Protection (COP), 19.52 for Safety Assist (SA) and 17.50 for Motorcyclist Safety (MS).

In crash testing, the occupant cell remained stable during the frontal offset impact, with adequate protection for the passenger’s chest and lower leg, and for the driver’s foot and ankle. The car scored 14.75 points in frontal impact, 8.00 in side impact, and 8.00 for head protection technology, totalling 30.75 points under AOP.

Side impact protection was another strong area, supported by a rigid structure and a full complement of nine airbags, including front, side, curtain and driver knee units. Both front occupants benefit from double pre-tensioner seatbelts and load limiters, while integrated head protection technology contributed to top marks.

For child safety, the Seal achieved 42.33 out of 51 points, comprising 24.00 (dynamic tests), 10.33 (vehicle-based) and 8.00 (installation). Using Joie i-Spin 360 and Every Stage Fx CRS, both 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies were well protected in frontal and side impacts.

The Seal’s safety assist suite earned 19.52 points out of 21, including 6.00 for braking and avoidance, 5.50 for seatbelt reminders, and 6.00 for AEB, with 2.00 points for advanced assist tech. ASEAN NCAP confirmed the AEB system worked effectively in city, inter-urban, pedestrian, and motorcycle scenarios.

Standard features across all variants include ESC, ABS, LDW, LKA, FCW, BSD (both sides), AHB, RCTA, rear occupant detection, and full seatbelt reminders. While all ASEAN markets get the same core package, SBR for rear passengers is optional in some countries.

Under the Motorcyclist Safety category, the Seal scored 17.50 points, driven by its BSD, pedestrian protection, AHB, and AEB for motorcycles, reflecting real-world safety focus in ASEAN’s mixed-traffic conditions.

In Malaysia, the BYD Seal Premium starts at RM171,800, and the Seal Performance at RM191,800, both carrying identical safety specifications validated by ASEAN NCAP.
