Within weeks after its debut, Mazda Malaysia has quietly revised the price of the new CX-80, now starting at RM295,000.

Just a few weeks after making its local debut, local Mazda brand representative Bermaz Auto Berhad (BAuto) has revised the pricing for its new flagship SUV, the Mazda CX-80 2.5G PHEV. From its original RM330,000 launch price, the new retail price for this three-row SUV—as listed on Mazda Malaysia’s official website—is now at only RM295,000, making it RM35,000 cheaper than before.

Besides the revised retail price, the specifications for the CX-80 remain unchanged from the launch version, as it comes in a single, fully-imported (CBU) 2.5G PHEV AWD variant. Being Mazda Malaysia’s first plug-in hybrid model, the CX-80 is powered by a 2.5-litre 4-cyl PHEV powertrain with a combined output of 323 hp and 500 Nm.

Paired with said powerplant is an 8-speed automatic transmission plus an all-wheel-drive (AWD) suite. Notably, Mazda also touts a combined fuel economy rate as low as 1.6 litres/100 km from this electrified powertrain.

Thanks to its 17.8-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the CX-80 PHEV is good for up to 65 km of EV-only range, Mazda claims. As for charging, the battery pack mentioned accepts AC charging input as high as 7.2 kW, which in turn promises 0-100% recharges in 2 hours 30 minutes.

Built on Mazda’s new Large Product Group platform, the CX-80 is positioned as the three-row version of the CX-60 midsize SUV, where it spans 4,995 mm long, 1,890 mm wide, and 1,705 mm tall with a 3,120 mm wheelbase. This puts it on par with other premium European three-row SUVs like the Volvo XC90, Audi Q7, and many more.

Billed as Mazda Malaysia’s new flagship SUV, the local-spec CX-80 comes exclusively with a three-row, six-seater configuration, with the second row featuring two powered ‘Captain Seats’ with both heating and ventilation functions. Other key highlights include plush brown leather upholstery with faux wood veneer trims, a new 12.3-inch central infotainment screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, multi-zone climate control, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, a panoramic sunroof, and many more.

With BAuto now revising the price of the new Mazda CX-80, would you consider this premium Japanese number over some of its more well-known European adversaries?
