KUCHING: Criminal Investigation Department (CID) teams from the Federal police headquarters and Sarawak CID have launched a major crackdown on secret societies across southern Sarawak over the past few days.

Coordinated, simultaneous raids were conducted at numerous locations across several districts, resulting in the arrest of 21 alleged gang members.

Bukit Aman CID Director Datuk M. Kumar stated that the special operation, dubbed Ops Pusak Merah, was designed to curb a rise in violent crimes linked to underworld activities in the region.

The raids targeted locations within the Kuching, Samarahan, Padawan and Simunjan districts.

“We have arrested 21 members of secret society groups allegedly involved in a series of violent crimes in these districts.

“The search for further suspects continues. Our objective is to dismantle these groups that are causing fear among the public,” Kumar said in a statement today.

The suspects are believed to be involved in a wide array of serious offences, including armed robbery, rioting, assault and extortion.

Preliminary investigations suggest that these individuals have been active since at least 2024.

Kumar added that all the suspects have prior criminal records.

The 21 men arrested are aged between 19 and 44.

The police have successfully obtained remand orders against the suspects to facilitate further investigations into the various crimes they are alleged to have committed.
