TAWAU: 21 undocumented migrants from Pakistan, the Philippines and Indonesia were arrested during a Sabah Immigration Department operation in Tawau on Tuesday (pic).
Department Director Datuk Sh Sitti Saleha Yussof said a team of 22 immigration officers conducted document checks and screening on nearly 100 individuals before detaining the suspects.
The arrested migrants were found to have committed various offences, primarily possessing no valid identification documents or travel passes.
Investigations are being carried out under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Immigration Regulations 1963.
Sitti Saleha said the operation was conducted based on public complaints and intelligence gathered over a week at several separate locations.
She said strict action would be taken against locals found harbouring or employing illegal immigrants.
