Manchester City will spend money in January to replace Aymeric Laporte.
Laporte has had surgery on his knee after being carried off in Saturday's 4-0 win over Brighton.
The Frenchman is likely to be out for four months.
Pep Guardiola was hoping to sign a replacement for Vincent Kompany next summer.
But Laporte's injury has fast-forwarded those plans, says The Sun.
