SEMPORNA: Police seized 250 boxes of cooking oil, believed for smuggling to a neighbouring country, at a house in Kampung Kebun Bunga, here, early Friday.
Acting on a tip, a police team raided the unnumbered house at 3am and discovered the boxes in a room.
“Each box contained 17 packets of cooking oil. The room was believed used as storage for controlled goods before they were smuggled out.
“The seized items are estimated to be worth RM10,625,” said Semporna Police Chief Supt Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah.
All confiscated items have been brought to Semporna police station and the case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
He reminded the public to report any smuggling activities to the police or the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry office here.
