MANILA, Philippines—Sixty-eight lawmakers skipped the plenary session of the House of Representatives on Monday, May 11.
There were 250 lawmakers during roll call as the House prepared to vote on the Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte.
The House, composed of 318 members, is expected to vote on whether to send the impeachment articles to the Senate for trial. Under the 1987 Constitution, a vote of at least one-third of all House members—106 of the current membership—is needed to do so.
The House Committee on Justice sent impeachment articles to the plenary after finding probable cause to impeach Duterte.
Duterte's removal from office and lifetime ban from any government position were sought in the impeachment articles.
