KOTA KINABALU: The 275-kilovolt (kV) Segaliud-Dam electricity transmission line is scheduled to commence operations in mid-April, doubling the daily power transmission capacity to the east coast of Sabah, from 200 megawatts (MW) to 400MW.

Sabah Electricity chief executive officer Mohd Yaakob Jaafar said that the final phase of upgrading the transmission line is being carried out from March 22 to 29.

He added that the project will allow for the transmission of more affordable energy from power stations on Sabah’s west coast to its east coast.

“Sabah Electricity is committed to completing the work ahead of Aidilfitri celebrations to ensure uninterrupted supply for consumers.

“It also aims to ensure a stable and reliable power supply to meet the increased demand throughout the festive season,” he said in a statement today.

He added that this move would further lessen reliance on costly diesel and MFO-based generation sources, which place a significant subsidy burden on the government.
