For every Malaysian, having a comfortable amount of EPF savings is crucial as it helps to act as a safety net when they retire.

A netizen recently took to social media to ask whether he was considered a “failure” in the eyes of society for not having achieving high EPF savings at a certain age.

‘Am I a failure?’

The question was posed in a Threads post by @_luqmansalam, where he wrote the following in the caption:

Am I failure if I only have RM6,000 in my EPF at the age of 28?”

He also posted a screenshot of his EPF savings as of Feb 11, 2026, where it showed that he currently has a total of RM6,081.09 saved up.

In the comment section, netizens did their best to comfort the OP and gave him words of encouragement.

‘Your EPF savings is RM6,000, but you have RM600,000 in Haji savings, right? Life isn’t a race. We all live for a better tomorrow. Don’t be too harsh on yourself.’

‘You’ve not failed and this isn’t a competition to see who saves the most. At least you’re not in debt and burdening your parents.’
