The suspect had been diagnosed with schizophrenia

Reports indicate that the suspect in Leong’s murder, Simon Hunter, has been charged with murder in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court.

The court was told that the 54-year-old has schizophrenia and was living without a fixed address.

According to ABC, Leong’s family flew in from Malaysia on Thursday morning and is now in contact with police. The Foreign Ministry acknowledged the incident and confirmed it’s providing support to his family.

The court is also asking the media to respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time.
