TAWAU: Five Indonesians and a local believed to be drug dealers were detained along with 2,016.92 grams of syabu worth RM120,282 during a raid on a house in Kg Inderasabah, here.

Tawau District Police Chief, ACP Jasmin Hussin, said all the suspects who worked as fishermen age between 20 and 40, were detained at 1.30am on Wednesday.

According to Jasmin, the drug was found hidden in a blue bag kept in two transparent plastic packages written “freeso-dried durian”.

“The raid was carried out by a police team from the Tawau IPD Narcotics Crime Investigation Division as a result of intelligence and public information.

Read more “During the raid, all the suspects were in a suspicious state and attempted to escape, but were then arrested,” he said in a press conference at IPD Tawau, on Thursday.

He said initial investigation on all the suspects found that they had no previous records, however, four of them were found to be positive for Syabu.

He added that the six suspects were remanded for seven days until May 9 for further investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Jasmin said the police were also trying to trace the drug distribution network that might be involved in this case, adding that the drugs were suspected to be for the local market.

Jasmin said that so far, the Tawau police managed to seize more than nine kilogrammes of drugs.

“We are also improving intelligence to combat this drug activity considering the latest trend of distributors using new ‘freeso-dried durian’ packaging. Previously, ‘guanyiwang’ tea was used,” he said.
