Blackjacks, this is not a drill. We repeat, this is not a drill, as the one live concert you have all been waiting for will finally take place – South Korean super girl group 2NE1 has confirmed that they will be adding Kuala Lumpur to their tour dates in 2025 as part of their highly anticipated reunion.
The news broke cover earlier today when the group’s management company, YG Entertainment, announced that additional cities will join their Asia itinerary. Initially, the 2NE1 Welcome Back 2024-25 Asia Tour was meant to stop only in Manila, Jakarta, Hong Kong, Singapore, Kobe, Tokyo, Bangkok, and Taipei.
2NE1 reunion concert adds Kuala Lumpur concert date for 2025
Kuala Lumpur is expected to host the group on 1st February 2025, before they take flight to Ho Chi Minh city and round things off in Macau on 22nd February 2025. With that said, ticketing details remain scant as of writing but we expect them to be announced in the next day or two, so keep your eyes peeled and watch this space.
As one of the most prominent names from the Korean wave in the 2010s, 2NE1 has amassed a truly sizeable fanbase across Asia, as evidenced by the furore that their reunion has inspired. Established in 2009, the group consists of four core members: Bom, CL, Dara, and Minzy. Despite performing as a group, each artist was associated with an individual style, breaking away from the typical monotony long associated with preceding female acts from the country at the time.
Their debut self-titled EP, which contained the singles Fire and I Don’t Care, immediately rocketed up the charts to seize podium spots. Such was their popularity that I Don’t Care would go on to receive the MAMA Song Of The Year award in the very same year that the group debuted, making them the first-ever girl group to achieve that feat.
This was followed by 2NE1’s first full-length studio album in 2010, entitled To Anyone, led by the singles Clap Your Hands, Go Away, and Can’t Nobody. While failing to reach the same critical success as their debut EP, it cemented the group’s commercial popularity, debuting at number 1 on local charts. Their second self-titled EP from 2011 performed considerably better by comparison, spawning some of their most memorable hits including Ugly, Don’t Cry, and Lonely.
2NE1’s final output, Crush, continues to bear the distinction of being the first album by a Korean act to appear on the Billboard Hot 200 charts. What’s more, they are widely considered to be the first K-pop girl group to embark on a global tour with their sellout New Evolution Global Tour. The group previously disbanded in 2018.
