Barcelona saw their profits drop for the 2018/19 campaign despite bringing in a record amount of revenue for the sixth season running, reports, www.sportspromedia.com/.

The La Liga champions, who last year said they wanted to make 1 billion (US$1.104 billion) in revenues by 2021, recorded income of 990 million (US$1.1 billion) for the 2018/19 season, up from the 914 million they made during the previous campaign.

It is the second consecutive season that Barcelona have broken the billion-dollar mark after becoming the first sports team to do so last campaign.

However, the club's spending soared to 973 million (US$1.075 billion), with their pre-tax operating profit dropping to 17 million (US$18.8 million) compared to the 20 million (US$22.1 million) they posted last season.

'The club has achieved its highest revenue ever and it's important to highlight that the income is 30 million more than the budgeted figure of 960 million,' Barcelona said in a statement released to ESPN. 'It is in line with the club's strategic plan to generate an annual turnover of 1 billion by 2021.'
