Kota Kinabalu: Sabah could expect more investment from China in the future due to the close diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China.
Sabah Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Phoong Jin Zhe said the success of Sabah obtaining a RM3 billion investment from Kibing Solar Group paved more China investments in the State.
“I have been to China three times and in those three visits we have seen the investment potential in Sabah is very high.
“Seeing the success of the China company, Kibin invested RM3 billion for solar glass manufacturing at Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) which already started operating. This starts the investment journey for Sabah.
“When we went to China, they showed great interest in investing in Sabah’s industries including food and biomass. This shows a very good trend,” he said at during The Jom! Malaysia-China 2023 Run, last Sunday.
Phoong said his Ministry plans to make an expo next year in conjunction with the 50th year anniversary of Malaysia- China diplomatic relationship.
“We will invite investors from China to explore the opportunities available in Sabah,” he said.
He also congratulated Malaysia-China Friendship Association Sabah for organising The Jom! Malaysia-China Run for the fourth time.
“The diplomatic relationship between Malaysia and China is a very important and unique relationship for our country.
“Malaysia-China Friendship Association Sabah has organised this activity every year for us to celebrate the diplomatic relations established since 49 years ago.
“Some 3,000 participated in this event and next year they are targeting 5,000 people in conjunction with the 50th anniversary.
“So next year, we will witness many programmes for us to jointly celebrate special diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China,” he said.
The event aims to strengthen the bond between the people of China and the State of Sabah, especially the young people, through sports.
This will help deepen cultural exchanges and promote friendship between the two countries.
China Consul General in Kota Kinabalu, Dr Huang Shifang, said the Consulate General will collaborate with various sectors in Sabah to enhance China-Malaysia relations, promote high-quality cooperation in the Belt and Road Initiative, and further develop the China-Malaysia community with a shared future in a more meaningful and practical way.
