KUALA LUMPUR – The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) secretariat said that Perak, Selangor, Melaka, Johor, Pahang, Kelantan, and Sarawak are still affected by floods, with 3,546 victims out of 1,047 households recorded as taking shelter at 39 temporary evacuation centres as of noon today.
In a statement, Nadma also said three centres were closed, namely SK Sri Kiambang in Pasir Mas, Kelantan); the Kg Padang Serai Dalam surau in Larut, Perak; and Dewan Tun Haji Mustapha in Lahad Datu, Sabah.
At the same time, 11 PPS are newly opened – two in Raub, Pahang; one each in Larut, Matang, and Selama in Perak; and seven in Selangor.
Nadma also said that according to the Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID) report as of 4pm today, 13 rivers are recorded to be at danger level involving Sarawak in Long Teru and Marudi, Miri; Sg Sertin at the Padang Gudang bridge in Bera, Pahang; Sg Lenik at Ladang Chaah in Segamat, Johor; Sg Linggi in Pekan Linggi, Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan; and Sg Melaka at Melaka Pindah, Alor Gajah and Sg Melaka at Batu Hampar in Melaka.
In Selangor, danger levels were recorded at Sg Binjai in Meru and Sg Rasau in Taman Desa Kemuning in Klang; Sg Langat at Changgang Hill in Kuala Langat; Sg Selangor in Rantau Panjang, Kuala Selangor; and Sg Langat in Dengkil and Sg Langat in Jenderam Hilir, Sepang.
Warning levels were recorded at eight rivers, namely Sg Long Jegan, in Miri, Sarawak and Sg Kandis in Kg Jawa, Klang in Selangor.
In Johor, they are Sg Muar in Kg Awat, Segamat; Sg Tangkak in Kg Seri Makmur, Tangkak; Parit Keling in Kg Pasir, Johor Baru. In Pahang, it is Sg Muar in Rompin, Jempol; as well as Sg Muar in Kg Berembang in Kuala Pilah, Negri Sembilan, and Sg Kelantan in Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas, Kelantan.
Meanwhile, according to DID, several locations in Taman Sri Muda, Shah Alam experienced a slight overflow of river water at noon today, due to the backwater phenomenon worsened by the constant drizzle.
“This situation has delayed the recession of water in Taman Sri Muda. The water pumps at Pintu Sri Muda and Taman Sri Muda Flood Reservoir were activated on November 16 at 11.35pm and are still operating optimally until now,” said its statement.
Nadma told all residents there to be alert, take precautions, and obey instructions from time to time.
In addition, according to Nadma, DID placed mobile pumps in nine locations around Kuala Selangor to accelerate the outflow of water, with permanent pumps also placed in two locations, namely Kg Asahan and Parit Merbau, Kg Bukit Kuching.
In the same statement, the Public Works Department (PWD) reported at 2pm that eight locations were affected by floods, while slopes had collapsed at seven locations, a road had collapsed in one, roads subsided in two, and bridges were damaged or collapsed in two others – making it 20 locations in total in Kelantan, Kedah, Perak, Negri Sembilan, Melaka, Terengganu, Johor, and Pahang.

Meanwhile, the Sepang disaster management committee reported a breached river bund in Kg Seri Tanjung, Dengkil, Selangor, affecting some 50 houses due to heavy rain and overflow, with DID reportedly in the process of repairing the bund.
Nadma also said that the flood in Kg Long Bemang, Sarawak since November 15 has not subsided, and 530 people from 103 houses have been relocated to higher ground.

Meanwhile, DID issued a flash flood advisory for residents in flood-prone areas in Kedah, Perlis, Perak, Penang, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Negri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, and Sarawak as of 4.30pm today.
DID said based on rain forecasts from the Meteorological Department, the Southeastern Asia-Oceania Flash Flood Guidance System, and the DID flood forecast model, there is a risk of flash floods at some locations in the event of heavy rain or thunderstorms. – Bernama, November 17, 2022
