
A total of 3.60 lakh voters will cast their votes tomorrow for elections to 51 urban local bodies (ULBs), including the four municipal corporations (MCs) of Dharamsala, Mandi, Solan, and Palampur.
There are 1,147 candidates in the fray for 449 wards falling under these 51 ULBs. Of the 3,60,859 eligible voters, 1,80,963 are men, 1,79,882 are women, and 1,808 are first-time voters, besides 14 others.
However, election will not be held in 10 wards as candidates have been elected unopposed, while no nomination was filed for Ward No. 7 in Karsog Nagar Panchayat of Mandi district. Also, all four candidates withdrew their nominations from Ward No. 14 in the Mandi MC.
According to State Election Commission, there are 70,224 candidates in the fray for the Panchayati Raj election, polling for which will be held in three phases on May 26, 28, and 30. Of the 86,725 nominations filed for the panchayat polls, 793 were rejected while 15,708 candidates withdrew their nominations.
The counting of votes for the four municipal corporations, 25 municipal councils, and 22 nagar panchayats will take place on May 31. However, the counting of votes for municipal councils and nagar panchayats will be conducted tomorrow itself after polling concludes.
