Jalandhar Rural police, continuing their intensified drive against drug trafficking and illegal narcotic activities, achieved a significant breakthrough in two separate operations conducted under the jurisdiction of Phillaur and Nurmahal police stations. Three accused persons were arrested and a substantial quantity of intoxicant tablets was recovered during routine patrolling and surveillance operations.
In the first case, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sukhev Singh, posted under Police Station Phillaur, along with the police team, was conducting routine patrolling in the area of village Samrari when suspicious movement of two individuals attracted the attention of the police party. Acting promptly, the police intercepted and searched the suspects identified as Kulwant Singh, son of Niranjan Singh and Boota Ram, son of Malkit Ram, both residents of village Samrari under Police Station Phillaur in Jalandhar Rural district.
During the search operation, the police recovered eight strips of intoxicant tablets from their possession. Out of these, seven strips contained ten tablets each while one strip contained six tablets, taking the total recovery to 76 tablets. The recovered tablets were identified as Tramadol Hydrochloride Tablets 100 mg bearing the brand name “Trekem-100 SR,” a prescription opioid medicine often misused as an intoxicant substance.
Following the recovery, the police registered a case against both accused under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and took them into custody. Police officials stated that further investigation is underway to trace the source of supply.
In another operation, ASI Amandeep Singh arrested one accused identified as Harjit alias Maur, son of Nirmal Chand, resident of Shamshabad under Police Station Nurmahal, district Jalandhar. The arrest was made during checking and surveillance operations in the area near Rajowal.
According to police officials, 27 loose intoxicant tablets of orange colour were recovered from the possession of the accused. A criminal case was subsequently registered and the accused was taken into custody for further interrogation. Investigators are examining the background of the accused and possible links with illegal narcotic suppliers active in nearby areas.
