Three members of a family were killed and five others were injured as a van collided with a private bus near the Luni river crossing in Rajasthan’s Nagaur district on Monday, police said.
According to the police, all eight occupants of the van belonged to the same family and were on their way to Pushkar to take a holy dip on the occasion of Somvati Amavasya.
The van collided head-on with a bus while trying to overtake another vehicle near Jasnagar. The van overturned due to the collision.
Locals rushed to the spot and rescued them. The injured were admitted to a nearby hospital, where three people were declared dead.
The deceased were identified as Jitendra, 40, Sheela, 35, and Mannu, 7, the police said, adding that the injured were undergoing treatment.
