3 PDRM Officers, Including an Assistant Superintendent, Charged With Murder of a Man in Langkawi

3 PDRM officers have been charged with the murder of a man which was committed inside the police station in Langkawi.

The accused, which includes an officer with the rank of Assistant Superintendent, were brought to the Magistrate Court in Langkawi, reported Sinar Harian and Astro Awani.

For those not familiar, according to UNIKOP, the Assistant Superintendent is an important rank and supervisory role, typically entrusted to oversee a team of officers and ensure the effective execution of law enforcement operations.

Based on the charges read out by the interpreter, the 3 accused were jointly charged with killing Mohamad Hafiz Salleh, 32, at the operations office of the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (BSJN), Langkawi District Police Headquarters (IPD).

The murder was committed between 6 PM and 8 PM on January 29, 2024.

However, no confessions were recorded after the charges were read against the accused, who have been charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code. If convicted, it can lead to the death penalty or imprisonment for a minimum of 30 years or a minimum of 12 lashes.

The court also accepted the prosecution’s application not to allow bail for all the accused and fixed 20 October for the next re-mention of the case.

What actually happened?

Back in February, a viral video showed a group of policemen allegedly using force while arresting a man at a gas station in Ayer Hangat, Langkawi, Kedah. This man was later identified as Mohamad Hafiz Salleh.

Hafiz was then brought to the police station where the accused committed the offence before he was brought to Hospital Sultanah Maliha for further treatment. Hafiz was pronounced dead 2 days later.
