Terrapuri, Terengganu – Be transported to a different era

Terrapuri is a conservation and restoration project of classical Malay houses, with over 20 residences that are more than a century old. These houses are not your typical ‘kampung’ houses, but in fact, once belonged to royalties and aristocrats. Terrapuri means the Land of Palaces; Terra means ‘land’ in Latin, and ‘Puri’ means ‘palace’ in Sanskrit. You will find many details of past grandeur in the intricate carvings all around these heritage dwellings.

Each traditional house is renovated as a luxurious villa, complete with air conditioning, bathtubs, a fridge, and other usual amenities. The only things that they don’t have are a TV and WIFI. But hey, if you’re there to unwind, a bit of digital detox would be good.

Located by the sea, Terrapuri is close to Setiu wetlands which are an ecological conservation site. If you come between May and September, you might be lucky enough to see turtles coming up to the beach to lay eggs!

KLoé, Kuala Lumpur – Immerse in a creative bubble

Inspired by artist residencies, this hotel has rooms dedicated to 5 different artistic genres; fine arts, music, books, food, and gardens. Each of these Artist Lofts was specially curated by artists in their field. Room to Cook was curated by celebrity chef Sarah Benjamin, Room to Listen by DJ Rudy La Faber, and you get the idea.

One of KLoé’s philosophies is to support the art community in Malaysia, so you will find that every item of furniture in the hotel is locally made and sourced. You can even shop for some home items or decor pieces by local artisans. So if you’re an art lover seeking to find a creative bubble in the city, this might just be the place for you.
