3-year-old injured after leg run over by fire dept vehicle during Merdeka parade

A THREE-YEAR-OLD boy was injured after his left leg was run over by a vehicle towing a fireboat during the state-level National Day celebrations in front of Wisma Persekutuan here this morning.

The incident involving Che Ku Muhammad Khairul Amir Che Ku Mohd Khairul Azlan occurred at about 9.45am when the four-wheel-drive vehicle towing the boat began moving slowly.

The boy reportedly fell while attempting to get a closer look at the security forces’ assets, leaving his left leg beneath one of the vehicle’s tyres.

His mother, Puteri Anis Athirah Wan Rosli, 36, from Kampung Chendering, said she had brought her three children to the celebrations because they were excited to see the assets belonging to the Fire and Rescue Department.

She said the vehicle carrying the department’s boat had stopped several times in front of Wisma Persekutuan before preparing to move.

"When the vehicle carrying the department's boat stopped several times in front of Wisma Persekutuan, my seven-year-old daughter, Che Ku Nur Amirah, ran ahead to take photographs.

"However, my son followed his sister.

"Firefighters tried to escort my son towards the roadside for safety before moving off, but my son suddenly fell face-first," she said.

She said her son's left leg ended up beneath the tyre as the vehicle began moving.

"The whole thing happened very quickly within a few seconds before I picked up my son.

"Thankfully, my son did not suffer any internal injuries, did not vomit and also did not sustain any injuries to his bones," she said.

Puteri Anis Athirah said police officers at the scene helped control the situation and escorted the ambulance taking her son to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital at about 10.15am.

"An X-ray showed that there were no broken bones, but the paediatric specialist is still monitoring my son to determine his condition.

"I do not blame the firefighters or any of the security forces because they were carrying out their duties to control the safety and movement of the assets.

"I consider the incident to have been accidental as a result of my son's excitement to see the security forces' assets up close," she said. - August 31, 2026
