AT least 30 houses were destroyed in a fire on Jalan Bokara, Kampung Karamunting, Sandakan in Sabah, early this morning. Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station Chief Jimmy Lagung said his department received a call at 3.34 am and sent a team of 21 personnel to the scene.
He said the fire covered an area of 1.4 hectares and firefighters extinguished the fire using water from tanks and fire hydrants.
"No casualties were reported, and we managed to save 100 other houses from being destroyed.
"Firemen took almost an hour to put out the fire to prevent it from spreading further before the operation was ended at 7 am today," he said.
Jimmy said, apart from the fire brigade, they were also assisted by teams from the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM) and Rela. – April 29, 2026
