The police have registered an FIR against 31 farmer activists for allegedly attempting to damage a Bhakra water pipeline supplying water to Hansi town and obstructing government work during a protest in Chainat village.

Hansi SP Vinod Kumar said the case was registered on the basis of a complaint filed by SDO Sheela Devi regarding the alleged disruption of official duties.

According to the police, a group of farmers reached the pipeline site on Monday afternoon carrying hammers and iron rods. When they failed to break the pipeline, they allegedly placed large pipes on the Hansi–Barwala road and blocked traffic.

In her complaint, SDO Sheela Devi stated that she had been appointed Duty Magistrate during the ongoing agitation over water supply issues in Chainat village. She alleged that despite repeated appeals by administrative officials not to block the road, the protesters raised slogans and went ahead with the blockade.

The authorities further claimed that the demonstrators attempted to uproot a water pipeline laid by the Public Health Department near Kharkari Mor.
