JPJ WPKL fines 31 transport companies RM463,000 for overloading offences, with the highest penalty reaching RM85,000.

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 31 transport companies were fined a total of RM463,000 for overloading and various other offences between January and May 11 this year.

Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory Road Transport Department (JPJ WPKL) director Hamidi Adam said one of the companies received an RM85,000 fine for overloading offences, making it the highest penalty ever recorded for such an offence in the federal capital.

“This penalty reflects JPJ WPKL’s firm stance in ensuring compliance with the law and sends a clear message that overloading offences will be dealt with sternly,” he said during a press conference on the Special Overloading Operation here today.

He said that since the implementation of the operation against overloading in October last year, JPJ WPKL had recorded a reduction in offences due to continuous monitoring and enforcement efforts.

Hamidi said that during the same period, 65,016 commercial vehicles were inspected, with action taken against 3,082 vehicles for various offences, including overloading, violations of Motor Vehicle Licence conditions and breaches of service requirement conditions.

Regarding the Special Overloading Operation launched on May 15, he said the operation focused on overloading offences and technical requirement violations involving commercial vehicles operating along major commercial routes, construction zones, development project sites and industrial areas in Kuala Lumpur.

During the three-day operation, a total of 26 lorries were inspected, with four vehicles seized by JPJ WPKL.

“JPJ WPKL also detained 22 vehicles involved in serious offences, including those driven by eight foreign drivers from India, Bangladesh and Indonesia, as well as 14 local drivers. Enforcement action was taken under the Land Public Transport Act 2010 and the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said.

Meanwhile, Hamidi urged the public to report traffic law violations through official channels such as the MyJPJ e-Aduan application or via email at aduantrafik@jpj.gov.my, accompanied by complete details.
