JOHOR BAHRU: Johor police today deployed 318 personnel to assist in ensuring the smooth running of the 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election.
Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said they comprised 290 personnel for general duties and 28 traffic personnel.
“The assistance provided is expected to be completed two days after polling day,” he told a media conference after officiating the Johor police monthly assembly and send-off ceremony for Johor contingent personnel to Negeri Sembilan at the Johor Police Headquarters (IPK) here today.
Meanwhile, he said the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) from Op Cantas have also been placed on standby and would be deployed if required during the election.
He added that the assignment was a great responsibility and trust in ensuring that the democratic process takes place peacefully, safely and in an orderly manner.
On Saturday (Aug 1), 867,151 voters in Negeri Sembilan will carry out their responsibility to elect new representatives, with 103 candidates vying for 36 state assembly seats.
Meanwhile, Ab Rahaman said they have received a total of 130 police reports and opened 27 investigation papers involving various offences during the recently concluded 16th Johor State Election campaign.
Overall, a total of 4,481 ceramah (political talks) campaigns were held by contesting parties throughout the election period.
Earlier, Ab Rahaman, in his speech at the monthly gathering, said four e-waste cases involving seized items worth RM8.06 million had been uncovered in the state since January.
He said 28 contraband cases involving the smuggling of alcoholic beverages and cigarettes were also foiled, with seizures valued at RM6.53 million, while 24 cases involving the misuse of subsidised fuel recorded seizures worth RM5.51 million.
A total of 46 cases involving other offences under Op Bersepadu Khazanah involving wildlife recorded the highest seizure value of more than RM96 million.
