Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) has issued 34 compound offers amounting to RM4,600 following checks on 76 hotels across the state under Task Force Ops Trigger 2026.
The simultaneous operation was carried out to detect and act against hotel premises found intentionally deactivating, isolating, or turning off fire alarm systems without valid technical grounds under Section 55 of the Fire Services Act 1988 (Act 341).
State JBPM director Mohd Pisar Aziz said the operation was aimed at ensuring hotel management takes fire safety seriously and maintains fully functional alarm systems rather than merely issuing compounds.
He noted that fire alarm systems serve as vital components for early emergency warnings and must not be deactivated without justifiable technical reasons.
He added that the department will continue to intensify enforcement and monitoring to ensure fire safety compliance in high-risk accommodation premises that carry sleeping risks.
