The Animal Husbandry Department in Sirsa has constituted 34 special teams in flood-prone areas of the district to ensure better healthcare services and the safety of livestock under the Intensive Livestock Development Project.

He said the teams will function under the supervision of the concerned sub-divisional officers of the Animal Husbandry Department and their work will be reviewed regularly. Dr Singh said the department has made all necessary arrangements in advance to deal with possible flood-related emergencies affecting livestock in the district. Vaccines and medicines will be supplied to the teams through the Central Store of the Government Veterinary Hospital, Sirsa.

He said the teams would carry out vaccination and deworming drives to protect animals from infectious diseases such as haemorrhagic septicaemia, Ranikhet disease, sheep pox and ETV in vulnerable areas. Immediate medical assistance will also be provided to livestock during emergencies, he added.

The special teams have been deployed in several flood-sensitive villages and adjoining areas of Sirsa district, including Baruwali, Panihari, Farwai Kalan, Khairpur, Bhavdin, Sikanderpur, Moriwala, Alikan, Dhaban, Mattar, Rori, Phaggu, Desu Khurd, Thiraj, Otu, Dhautad, Rania, Balasar, Bhadolanwali, Amritsar Kalan, Madhosinghana, Malekan, Khairkan, Punjuwana, Karmgarh, Ellenabad, Sant Nagar, Ding and Kishanpura.
