35 boxes of cooking oil seized

LAHAD DATU: Marine Police Force (MPF) detained a man trying to smuggle out cooking oil to a neighbouring country at Kampung Takun, Tungku shore, Thursday.

Sabah Region Four MPF Deputy Commander, Supt Abdul Nasir Othman said, MPF team patrolling at the areas spotted three men near a Four Wheel Drive (4WD) behaving in suspicious behaviour.

The team also spotted piles of cooking oil boxes on the ground.

“When the team approached the area, the trio ran away. The team pursued the suspects and managed to detain one of them.

According to Abdul Nasir, further inspection found that the suspect failed to produce documents pertaining to the subsidised item.

Abdul Nasir said all the seizures estimated worth RM101,487.50, including the 4WD, were taken to Lahad Datu MPF base for further action.

The case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
