The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Tuesday reported that 36 Filipino seafarers aboard two vessels safely exited the Strait of Hormuz on April 25 after being stranded in the Persian Gulf amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
In a statement, the DMW said the seafarers were on board the Omicron Nikos and Nord, which are Liberian- and Russian-flagged vessels, respectively.
Their safe passage brings the total number of Filipino crew members who have left the area to nearly 1,200.
“The DMW continues to closely monitor vessel movements in the region and maintain coordination with manning agencies and shipowners to ensure the safety and welfare of Filipino seafarers. The Department also keeps communication lines open with the affected seafarers and their families,” the agency said.
