He was barred from entering the country

According to Lianhe Zaobao, the 38-year-old man pleaded guilty on September 4 in court to one charge of assaulting a public servant and another for violating the Miscellaneous (Public Order and Nuisance) Act.

Court records showed he arrived in Singapore on the morning of August 16 and was stopped by Immigration and Checkpoint Authority (ICA) officers at Changi Airport Terminal 4. However, it remains unclear why he was barred from entering the country.

He was later taken to an airport lounge to wait for deportation, but when he refused to cooperate, officers had to restrain him.

After that, 4 ICA officers had to wheel the defendant out for deportation as he kept shouting throughout the process, and eventually spat at one of the officers. He was later sentenced to eight weeks in jail.

The prosecution noted that spitting at an official in public was not only humiliating but also showed a lack of respect for public institutions.

Now in custody, the defendant admitted his mistakes and pleaded for the case to be wrapped up quickly so he could return home soon.
