Kota Kinabalu: Some 39,276 foreigners have been recorded in the Sabah Integrated Foreign Workers and Non-Residents Management System (Swims) so far.

The Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan, said this includes 21,994 foreign workers and 17,282 dependents.

These records are part of a digital data collection outreach programme by the State Government that began in September 2022 and is still ongoing.

"In the initial phase, the programme focused on the plantation and construction sectors because both have the highest number of foreign residents and also active demand for labour in the 3D category – dirty, difficult, and dangerous," he said during the State Legislative Assembly sitting on Thursday.
